Summer is almost over and the pre-fall looks will certainly be out and about very soon! That being said, in sunny and unnecessarily hot Florida, summer is still in full effect and August gives us a chance to flaunt our tans, legs, and outfits!
The great thing about being in your 20s is the ability to have a chance to explore and experiment with your style – something I like to call “style freedom”. It’s the time in your life where you’re free of having any sort of judgment for the choices you make and how you can go from a full Audrey Hepburn-inspired outfit one day to Bad Gal Riri the next. When putting this outfit together, I thought of where I thought this girl would go with it and who she was.
This is an outfit that is perfect for a fun night out with your gals or a fun night out on a date. Sometimes, the best thing you can do in life is to not take it too seriously, and that can always be said about your style! Let what you wear express not only who you are but how you feel! Finding a look that can be a bit out of your comfort zone or that expresses your vivaciousness or even tenacity is a great way of expressing a side of you without even having to open your mouth! Personally, I wanted something fun, young, and trendy for this shoot because I believe in playing up the age group I am in and enjoying the now instead of taking things too seriously!
The top: Seen on the blog before, I chose to wear this top again because one, I believe in wearing an article of clothing more than once (more than 10 times, actually) and two, because I like to showcase garment versatility. One of the main ways I like to shop for clothes is to decide whether I am able to use it more than once. What bottoms can I mix with it? How can I make this look different than my last look? Can it be worn for multiple seasons? These are all questions one should always ask themselves whenever shopping – otherwise, it is more than likely that your hanger will be rocking that top more than you will. Weather aside, I see no problem wearing leather/pleather during the summers. Albeit, shown during the day, these materials are great for going out, especially to a fun bar/lounge for a drink with the girls!
To be perfectly honest, I was not the biggest fan of the asymmetrical skort. I loved it at first, but when it started popping up everywhere I quickly became over that trend. However, I believe in the motto, “Don’t knock it ’til you try it” and I have to say I definitely can see why it was such a hit! I love the black-and-white combination of the outfit, especially because the skort is trimmed at the top with black leather! When it comes to building an outfit, the smallest details can be the most important. I also particularly enjoy the revival of the skort! You should always have something under your skirt aside from your undies and I like the fact that skorts take away that need for extra coverage.
Accessories most definitely matters when it comes to pulling an outfit together! As you may or may not know, I am not the biggest accessories person, but I do like to bring out my rings every now and then. I totally believe in mixing metallics; now, don’t go crazy with it, but I believe there is nothing wrong with adding a bit of silver to gold accessories. I chose to accessorize this outfit with really funky rings and bracelets instead of a necklace and earrings, mainly because I have my hair down as well as the fact a necklace would make my top half appear busy due to where the top lays on my collar bone. Once again, I added a pop of color to the bag! I love this tribal print clutch – I’ve had it for over a year now and it’s a bit of an understatement when I say it goes with almost everything I own!
I cannot believe how quickly summer is coming to an end! So much has happened in a matter of eight months and I can’t believe I will soon begin a fun, exciting, unexpected new chapter in my life! I’ve had some great highs this year: I graduated college, got to participate in the union of two people I truly love, vacation with my family, and learn many life lessons that I wish could have been avoided but that I learned a lot from. I also got to start this amazing blog and meet some truly inspiring bloggers! I’m excited to be leaving Tampa, but will never forget the memories, friendships, and family this city has given me. I chose Ybor City as my last location in Tampa because I have so many crazy, fun memories attached to it. Until next, friends!
