Welcome to the Sitting Pretty Style "How-to-Style Sunday's" series! A lot of questions I get asked is how do I style a closet staple so that it doesn't look like I keep wearing the same the same piece. This series will show you how to take one piece from your wardrobe and create two-to-three looks that can be easily attained no matter the budget or lifestyle.
I believe the key to creating a solid wardrobe is purchasing pieces that are able to be mixed-and-matched to perfection. Relaxed skinny ankle jeans (like these here from H&M) are a summer-time staple that will be easy to transition into Fall as well as create a diverse set of looks. My closet is filled with staple pieces that I repeatedly wear, sometimes in a row, without anyone being the wiser (or at least they don’t say anything).
Below are two looks with my H&M relaxed skinny ankle jeans that I often wear throughout the streets of New York City.
Relaxed Skinny Ankle Jeans: Casual Look
I wore this outfit on the hottest day of the year (so far) to run errands around SoHo and the West Village. I’m all about comfort as I walk or take the subway everywhere, but I believe you can have functionality and style all in one swoop.
Worn with a simple tank and low-to-the-ground sandals, this is an easy, attainable, look that fits all different lifestyles. Whether on-the-go or just exploring, you’ll be comfortable and polished and won’t feel as if you’re not dressed for the unexpected. For an even more casual look, switch out the sandals for sneakers.
Relaxed Skinny Ankle Jeans: Dressy Look
I wouldn’t call this “super dressy”, but relaxed distressed jeans aren’t supposed to be. You can wear this to brunch, a date, or even to go out to some bars with your friends. Adding a blouse over a tank makes it appropriate for a night out and it’s fun to mix trendy pieces like this off-the-shoulder blouse with your wardrobe staple.
I have to add, I’m loving the off-the-shoulder trend. Fun fact: I used to want to be Esmeralda from Disney’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame so bad when I was younger; I always wore her costume. So, you can say I called this trend when I was 5 years old. Anyways, this is a great trend that anybody at any age can wear and is flattering on all body types.
Fashion should always be fun, never take it seriously. Moreover, we women have to stop thinking our we have nothing to wear with full closets. Both outfits give off completely different looks and would fit different types of women.
