When it comes to winter style, layering is a great way to ditch your big coat and showcase the killer outfit you've been dying to take a picture of all season.
Looking through Pinterest and Instagram can be inspiring and heartbreaking. How do all of these style bloggers take the perfect winter outfits outside? Aren’t they freezing? Where are they? How can I get that look?! The answer: layering. Below are easy style tips on how to layer your chunky sweater like a style blogger plus how to use your location as a backdrop.
How to Layer Your Chunky Sweater: The Outfit
Chunky sweaters are my winter style staple; they pair perfectly with jeans, a cute skirt, can be belted or worn loose, the possibilities are endless. Go with a sweater 1-2 sizes bigger than your typical size for layering. This sweater from H&M is a Large, which makes it loose and comfortable enough to add another sweatshirt underneath. I wanted a contrast to the red so I went with a dark grey sweatshirt.
I always go by the general rule of keeping one part of my body fitted if the other is loose. Fitted jeans are a great go-to for layering your chunky sweater. These are my three favorite jeans to pair with a chunky sweater:
The day wasn’t so bad that I couldn’t wear my new favorite pair of heels. Square toed heels are making a major comeback and I love how sophisticated they look.
The last part to a layered chunky sweater look? Styling. Left alone, a chunky sweater can look frumpy really fast. A simple technique is to roll up the sleeves which allow for arm function and a chance to showcase the sweatshirt underneath. Another simple look? Placing part of the sweater inside you jeans. It’s a disheveled look which ironically looks put together.
How to Use Your Background for Amazing Style Blogger Pictures.
Wall #OOTD’s are great, but I’m all about sharing my life and sharing my world, which happens to include New York City. Whether I’m out and about or headed to meet up with someone, there’s always a way to capture the day and place for an amazing #outfitpost.
Sometimes our best photos come when we’re not even trying. Look for backdrops that compliment your outfit and just be yourself. Walking photos look terrific and are a great way to show movement, especially if your outfit has a fun detail like fringe. You don’t want to give everything to the viewer, let them figure it out and have your location tell a story.
Other times, we’re graced with unprecedented backdrops, like this random Ford pick-up truck in the middle of Brooklyn. Don’t be afraid to get into the photo. Sometimes the most ridiculous ideas turn out to be the best photos. Look at your surroundings and see what can be captured. There’s beauty in everything.
