The hustle and bustle of the city can take a toll on anyone's well being.
In life, we sometimes need to take a step back from situations to gain perspective. For a city as busy as New York, that perspective may have to be taken elsewhere. Traveling to the Poconos Mountains was a wonderful experience and helped clear a lot of the things causing me stress. As a city girl, however, I was thinking: what to do in the Poconos in the winter?
Things to Do in the Poconos
I spent the weekend in a cabin with friends and it was the most fun I’ve had on a weekend trip in a while. One of my recommendations is to take a hike and explore the area.
We found this amazing frozen lake and the scene was just breathtaking. You can tell the lake is very much used during the summer, but I liked it just the way it was. Calming.
Another fun thing: tubing! Can you believe it was my first time? I can, because what am I supposed to slide down in Florida, sand? I’m a big fan of winter sports, last winter I went snowboarding for the second time and loved it. Taking the time to try new activities is what life is all about; it’s also a great way to de-stress and focus on important things, like not dying down a mountain.
What to Do in the Poconos in the Winter: Relax
Easily said, not so easily done. I am a highly anxious person, sometimes to the point it can affect how I function and my overall health. Studies have shown how nature can help with stress and anxiety in ways many other things can’t. Now, especially with today’s government our country feels so divided and it genuinely hurts me to my core. Moreover, it affects us in ways we sometimes don’t even realize.
It’s so important, I think now more than ever that we make sure we take care of ourselves. We cannot be our best selves without it and it’s so hard to see the light at the end of tunnel without hope. I woke up early one morning during my vacation to walk outside after the snowstorm and couldn’t believe where I was. Never in a million years did I think I would walk outside to snow, to quiet, to nature in such a peaceful way. It helps to find that center and get back to our core values and who we are as people, as humans, to be able to see what’s important.
My favorite ways to relax while on vacation are:
- Meditate and reflect – you’d be surprised how much we forget to do this! Find a serene spot and just take a few moments. The clarity that will follow suit is incredible.
- Get up and dance – or just laugh with your friends! Laughter really is the best medicine
- Chill out to music – we listened to Hamilton Mixtape (no shame in our game)
- Get outside
How to Vacation in the Poconos
Rent a cabin! There are so many cabins that are available for weekend trips and they are usually less expensive in the winter. The cabin looks like it should be in a postcard, how could you not want to visit?! I had such an amazing time and I wish I could’ve recorded every moment of it. I highly recommend visiting the Poconos, especially during the winter. Until next time!
