I’m a big believer in purging your closet twice a year – typically Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter. And whether you love them or hate them, adding a few “trendy” pieces to your wardrobe can give your closet a major fashion refresh without breaking the bank or stating the dreaded phrase, “I have nothing to wear!”
I believe in the power of a curated closet, which is why I started (and to be honest, forgot about) my “Building A Wardrobe” series. If you have a closet full of amazing staples you know you’ll wear throughout the season, it’s okay to add fun items that can be a little bit out there. Below are the top 5 items your wardrobe needs this Spring.
The Top 5 Items Your Wardrobe Needs This Spring
Item I: A Sundress.
After a very long and cold winter this is probably the trend I am most excited to wear! There are so many styles, lengths and types of sundresses, I honestly don’t even know where to start. Personal style is all about knowing what works for you. My go-to sundress is always one that is fitted up top, cinched at the waist and loose at the bottom. I wear variations of this dress, but this season, don’t be afraid to try:
- Off-the shoulder
- Silk Slip Dresses
- Wrap Dresses
- Shirt Dresses
Item II: Blocked Heels.
Ever since I moved to the city (and foolishly tried to wear heels everywhere), I realized the power of a blocked heel. This season is all about the mule and I honestly still don’t know how I feel about it. If you’re like me and still on the fence of adding mules to your wardrobe, other blocked heel styles you can try are:
- Ankle boots
- Closed-toe shoes
Item III: Gingham.
This print is literally everywhere – it’s like that catchy song on the radio you don’t like, but if you hear it enough it starts to slowly creep its way in. I never thought I’d like gingham, but it’s everywhere and I kind of feel compelled to give it a try. Try adding Gingham print with:
- A skirt
Item IV: The Micro Bag.
I love the idea of a micro bag (I mean, who doesn’t love mini whatever). Adorable, yet unpractical for New York City, micro bags are great for a fun day at brunch with friends or a walk around the park. Add a micro bag for a fun weekend look or a cool night out this season.
Item V: Floral (Because It’s Groundbreaking, Duh).
Probably not as groundbreaking, but adding floral to your wardrobe is like adding flowers into your home – they breathe life into everything! Even if you don’t want to participate in #TGIFF (Thank God It’s Floral Friday), there are easy ways to add floral into your wardrobe. The way I add floral to my wardrobe is through:
- Embroided Jeans
Spring is my favorite season because it feels as if it’s the start of a new you. We spend so much of the winter season inside, covered up and waiting for the worst to be over. That can translate so much into the way we react to things in our lives. Spring is all about embracing the new and shedding away the cold and dreary. Share your thoughts on some of your favorite spring trends below! Until next time.
